This winter we have undertaken some major internal refurbishment. This has included new dining table and chairs, improved flooring plus the very exciting edition of a small guest kitchen. This combination has been very well received by guests both new and returning. Outside, Santa’s Grotto from the front garden has now been re-located to the back garden and has its summer use as a serving/bar near to the BBQ area. This is also a new edition to the outside space. New motors have been installed in the electric gates which has improved their efficiency. Work on the outside breakfast patio area and updating the other outside spaces is still ongoing.
TT 2026 has been very busy with visitors from all over the world staying here. Sadly, the weather for Race week was not as glorious as it was for Practice week but there was still plenty for guests to do and to keep them entertained. My off-road parking for expensive bikes was appreciated and the electric gates added to the element of security plus each group had an electronic opener so that they could come and go as they wished. The variety of eating establishments in the village ensured that all guests had plenty of culinary choice within easy walking distance of my B&B. Some guests had chosen to use only public transport and that worked well as both the bus and steam train were within easy walking distance. The special TT buses were also untilised. Other guests chose to ‘pick ‘n’ mix’ and used their own transport for travelling to more out of the way places and then take either the train or bus to visit Douglas. They were also delighted to ‘rub shoulders’ with the stars of Hollywood who were filming at this year’s TT. The film starring Channing Tatum and Eve Hewson was much publicised and even the movie owner Brad Pitt made an appearance. Then, suddenly Kennau Reeves was there, in the middle of the action!
Outside of TT, the village also played host to an Arts’ funded film called ‘Runaway’. The young team of film makers from London used Mt Tabor church as a ‘Green Room’ and for ‘Tabors’s Troopers’ it was a very exhausting couple of days as the film production team was fed on site too. So, look out for that film.
The next racing event is S100 at the start of July and Mt Tabor will be opening up its doors to provide an exhibition space for visitors. Many thanks in advance to all those people who have promised photos and memorabilia for this exhibition and thanks to those who will help with the stewarding of it. I shall be hosting guests here in my B&B and then helping out in the exhibition. This is a new event, and we are excited that it is taking place in our village.
