Busy but satisfying year

As 2026 draws to a close after a great year in which S100 had to be the highlight for me as regards the weather and the busyness of the time here in the south. The new exhibition for the S100 and the local Art group which opened in the local church was well received and well patronised. There were those who thought that it would have been even more popular had the weather not been so good! Although we had good weather this summer, we did not have the same high temperatures that the UK suffered. Also, there is always a movement (sometimes stronger than others) of air here on the Isle of Man which helps keep people comfortable in any heat. Families enjoyed a traditional ‘bucket and spade’ holiday and all of the young people be they locals or visitors were rarely off the beach!

Work on the B&B always ongoing and improvements and upgrades are being made. The winter’s Santa’s grotto for the first time became a garden bar to accompany the BBQ set already established. The breakfast patio area is still a work in progress, but a new bistro set has been purchased for it. The new guest kitchen in the main building which was installed in the springtime has been well received by guests.

As we enter Autumn, there is still plenty to see and do on the Isle of Man. The autumn colours can be magnificent and there is a selection of walks through glens and plantations in which visitors can enjoy the variety of trees that thrive in our temperate climate. Our Theatres and Arts’ Centres start their winter programmes of events and in the small towns and villages there are also various social events commencing. Also, crafters are ‘gearing up’ for the series of Christmas markets that will take place at venues around the Island from October. They have a cornucopia of unusual gifts waiting to be snapped up for Christmas presents.

On the downside the cost of food and utilities has increased, and I have reluctantly had to increase my prices. The cost has remained the same since 2024, but bookings taken from now on will show an increase in the room rate. However, given that breakfast is included the price still represents good value for money.

Most of my major structural renovations are now complete and I will remain open throughout the year. I look forward to meeting new and returning customers in the future.
